One of our favorite hikes is so close to Salt Lake you can do it anytime. Elephant Rock is a 6.8 mile moderately trafficked out & back trail located in the foothills of Bountiful, Utah.

DO NOT LET THE LENGTH SCARE YOU. The beginning of the hike is a little steep but once you make it to the wood teepee’s it flattens out and it is just a gradual climb.

This trail is used by a lot of bikers so feel free to take your bike but watch out for hikers and be alert. There are also horses and dogs allowed.

We didn’t see any horses. The hike should take about 3 and a half hours so bring plenty of water and maybe some snacks. If you are hiking with young ones bring a picnic.
DIRECTIONS: The trail is located about 200 yards east of 1977 Mueller Park Road in Bountiful. There is a small parking area for about 8 cars. You can park there or on Mueller Park Road. You do not need to drive through the pay station.

The trail begins just over the bridge near the parking area. Once you get to the benches at the end of the hike, sit down and enjoy the beautiful view of the entire valley.
You can hike down to the Elephant Rock for fun but the view from the benches is the same. The pictures below are actually climbing onto the rock.
